The Department of Mechanical Engineering at SGBIT, Belagavi, was established in 2008 with an intake of 60 students. The department comprises 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, and 12 Assistant Professors, with nine research scholars actively pursuing Ph.D. programmes.

The department earned recognition as a VTU Research Centre in 2017 and offers a full-fledged workshop for hands-on manufacturing skills. Well-equipped laboratories, regular industrial visits, and MoU-based collaborations with leading industries provide students with practical, real-world engineering experience.

The student association ARMES (Association of Royal Mechanical Engineering Students) organises value-added programmes spanning social, moral, and technical dimensions. Graduates from the department are placed in globally recognized companies including Bosch, Mercedes-Benz, Emirates Global Aluminium, Tata Motors, Siemens, and Eaton.
