Robotics Club – SGBIT Belagavi

Innovate. Build. Compete. | Student Robotics & Automation Club

The Robotics Club at SGBIT, Belagavi is a student-driven community dedicated to fostering innovation in robotics, automation, and intelligent systems. The club welcomes students from all engineering disciplines — whether they are hobbyists exploring their first robot or seasoned builders competing in national-level competitions.

About the Robotics Club

The SGBIT Robotics Club was established to bridge the gap between theoretical engineering education and hands-on technological innovation. The club provides a collaborative learning environment where students design, build, and program robots — gaining practical skills in mechanical design, electronics, programming, AI, and computer-aided manufacturing.

The club's scope extends to Artificial Intelligence, robot motion planning, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and applications in material handling and hazardous environment management. Members gain exposure to cutting-edge robotics platforms, microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), and embedded systems.

Career pathways opened through Robotics Club participation include roles in manufacturing automation, automotive engineering, aerospace robotics, and advanced research at institutions offering MS, ME, M.Tech, and Ph.D programmes internationally.

Club Objectives
  • Foster hands-on learning in robotics, automation, and intelligent systems among engineering students.
  • Support and mentor students with interest in mechanical design, electronics integration, and programming.
  • Serve hobbyists, beginners, experienced builders, and competition participants.
  • Organise workshops, seminars, and inter-college robotics competitions.
  • Develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork through collaborative project work.
  • Encourage participation in national-level robotics competitions (IIT Bombay e-Yantra, Robocon, etc.).
Key Activities & Achievements
  • Workshop: "Digital Gadget Design using Raspberry Pi & Python" – Hands-on workshop where students built functional digital devices using Raspberry Pi boards and Python programming.
  • e-Yantra Robotics Competition (IIT Bombay) – SGBIT students successfully cleared the online qualifying examination for the prestigious e-Yantra Robotics Competition organised by IIT Bombay.
  • Interdepartmental Competitions – Annual robotics challenges attracting students from all engineering branches.
  • Inter-College Robotics Events – Participation in technical fests across Karnataka.
  • Active Membership – Members across 3rd, 5th, and 7th semesters, ensuring continuity and mentoring culture.
Club Rules & Membership
  • All club activities must be conducted under faculty advisor supervision.
  • Laboratory computers are restricted to robotics-related projects only.
  • Members must maintain a clean and organised workspace — proper tool storage is mandatory.
  • New parts inventory access requires prior approval from the club advisor.
  • Professional conduct is expected at all times; food and beverages are prohibited in the lab.

Membership is open to students in 2nd year and above. Interested students can contact the Robotics Club Faculty Advisor, Department of ECE/CSE, SGBIT Belagavi. Phone: 0831-2407172.
