The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SGBIT was established in 2008, from the very inception of the institution. With an intake of 60 students, the department occupies well-equipped laboratories spread over more than 900 square metres.

The department has two faculty members who are doctorates and five pursuing Ph.D. degrees. Faculty actively engage in career guidance, mentoring, industry-institute interaction, and regularly organise industrial visits, guest lectures, workshops, and conferences. The department has received project grants from KSCST, VGST, and VTU.

A highlight of the department is the Schneider Electric Industrial Automation Training Lab (equipment worth ₹20 lakhs), established in collaboration with Gram Vikas Society, providing free training to B.E. and diploma students. MoUs with KGTTI Hubballi, Shanthala Power Limited, Vishwabharati Technologies, and HESCOM further strengthen industry-institute ties.
