The Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) at S.G. Balekundri Institute of Technology, Belagavi, is a dedicated initiative aimed at fostering gender equality, ensuring the safety and dignity of women on campus, and empowering female students, faculty, and staff to achieve their full potential.

Established under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission and AICTE, WEC serves as a platform for addressing gender-related concerns, organizing awareness programs, and promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity within the institution.
Vision

To create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for all women at SGBIT, where they can thrive academically, professionally, and personally without fear of discrimination or harassment.

Mission

To promote gender equality, prevent sexual harassment, provide support and counseling to women in distress, conduct regular awareness programs, and build leadership skills among women students and staff.

Promote gender equality and women's rights on campus

Ensure safety and dignity of all women in the institution

Provide grievance redressal support for women's concerns

Conduct awareness programs on POSH, legal rights, and mental health

Encourage leadership, entrepreneurship, and skill development among women

Prevent sexual harassment and create a zero-tolerance environment

Foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and mutual support

Roles & Responsibilities

The WEC is mandated to carry out the following duties under the POSH Act and UGC guidelines.

Address and redress issues related to women's safety and dignity on campus
Prevent sexual harassment in all forms within the institution
Organize awareness programs on gender sensitization and women's rights
Conduct regular counseling sessions and provide emotional support
Promote women's leadership through workshops and seminars
Support women entrepreneurs through guidance and mentoring
Liaise with college administration on gender-related policy matters
Maintain confidentiality of complaints and protect complainant identity
Submit annual reports on WEC activities to the management

A confidential investigation is conducted; both parties are given an opportunity to present their case.

Appropriate disciplinary or corrective action is recommended as per institutional policy and the POSH Act.

Resolution

The complainant is informed of the outcome and any follow-up actions taken to prevent recurrence.
