National Service Scheme | "Not Me But You"

The Social Club at SGBIT, Belagavi is home to the National Service Scheme (NSS) — a Central Government scheme launched in 1969 to develop personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service. SGBIT's NSS unit has been actively contributing to society since 2008–09.

About NSS at SGBIT

NSS operates under the motto "Not Me But You" — reflecting the essence of democratic living and the importance of placing others' welfare above self-interest. Through NSS activities, SGBIT students develop social awareness, civic responsibility, and practical problem-solving skills while contributing to national development.

The NSS programme at SGBIT was established in 2008–09 and has since conducted numerous impactful community service initiatives across Belagavi. Activities include blood donation camps, environmental conservation drives, voter awareness campaigns, and social welfare programmes.

NSS Objectives

Understand the community in which NSS volunteers work and live.
Understand themselves in relation to their community.
Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
Utilise knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
Gain skills in mobilising community participation.
Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
Develop capacity to meet emergencies and national disasters.
Practise national integration and social harmony through community service.

Key NSS Activities (2019–2024)

Blood Donation Camps – Regular blood donation drives in association with local hospitals and blood banks.
Voter Awareness Campaign – Motivating youth to register and exercise their voting rights.
Plastic-Free Campus Drive – Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaigns for a clean, plastic-free environment.
COVID-19 Awareness – Community awareness drives about health safety, hygiene, and vaccination.
Tree Plantation – Participation in World Environment Day plantation drives.
Orphanage Visits – Food and essential goods distribution to children at "Vivekanand Seva Pratistan".
Cleanliness Drives – Swatch Bharath Abhiyaan campus and neighbourhood cleanliness initiatives.

Join NSS at SGBIT

NSS membership is open to all first-year and second-year undergraduate students at SGBIT. Volunteers earn NSS certificates recognised by the Government of India for community service hours completed. NSS participation also earns VTU activity points required for graduation.
