About the Department
AI & Data Science — Established 2020
The Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science (AI&DS) at SGBIT was established in 2020 under AICTE approval and VTU affiliation with an intake of 60 students. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art AI/ML laboratories, a dedicated Data Science research lab, and GPU-enabled computing infrastructure. The curriculum is designed to align with industry needs, covering Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Big Data Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Cloud Computing. The department has collaborations with leading IT companies for internships, live projects, and placement drives.

The department follows the VTU curriculum (Scheme 2022) which integrates Outcome-Based Education (OBE) principles. The program spans 8 semesters with a blend of theory, laboratory work, mini-projects, and a full-semester capstone project in the 8th semester.

Technical Competencies upon Graduation
PSO1: Apply machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling techniques to analyse, interpret, and derive actionable insights from complex datasets. PSO2: Design and develop end-to-end data-driven intelligent systems and applications using modern tools, frameworks, and cloud platforms.

1. Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Lab — 30 high-performance workstations with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, and GPU compute support. 2. Data Science & Analytics Lab — R Studio, Python Pandas/NumPy/Matplotlib, Tableau, Power BI, and Apache Spark. 3. Deep Learning & Computer Vision Lab — NVIDIA GPU servers, OpenCV, Keras, YOLO, and MediaPipe. 4. Cloud Computing & Big Data Lab — AWS Educate, Google Cloud, Hadoop, Hive, and Apache Kafka. 5. NLP & Intelligent Systems Lab — NLTK, SpaCy, HuggingFace Transformers, and Rasa for conversational AI.
