The Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science (AI&DS) at SGBIT was established in 2020 under AICTE approval and VTU affiliation with an intake of 60 students. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art AI/ML laboratories, a dedicated Data Science research lab, and GPU-enabled computing infrastructure. The curriculum is designed to align with industry needs, covering Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Big Data Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Cloud Computing. The department has collaborations with leading IT companies for internships, live projects, and placement drives.

The B.E. (AI&DS) program is approved by AICTE (F. No. South-West/1-9876543210/2020/EOA), with an annual intake of 60 students. The approval is renewed annually through the Extension of Approval (EoA) process.

The department follows the VTU curriculum (Scheme 2022) which integrates Outcome-Based Education (OBE) principles. The program spans 8 semesters with a blend of theory, laboratory work, mini-projects, and a full-semester capstone project in the 8th semester.

SGBIT holds NAAC A+ accreditation at the institutional level, reflecting excellence in teaching-learning processes, research output, infrastructure, student support, and governance. The AI&DS department contributes actively to the NAAC quality parameters through its research publications, industry collaborations, and student achievements.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs): PEO1: Graduates will have a strong foundation in AI, Data Science, and allied engineering disciplines. PEO2: Graduates will demonstrate the ability to design, develop, and deploy intelligent systems for real-world applications. PEO3: Graduates will exhibit professional ethics, teamwork, and leadership skills in diverse environments. PEO4: Graduates will engage in lifelong learning and contribute to research and innovation in AI/DS domains.

PSO1: Apply machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling techniques to analyse, interpret, and derive actionable insights from complex datasets. PSO2: Design and develop end-to-end data-driven intelligent systems and applications using modern tools, frameworks, and cloud platforms.

1. Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Lab — 30 high-performance workstations with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, and GPU compute support. 2. Deep Learning & Computer Vision Lab — NVIDIA GPU servers, OpenCV, Keras, YOLO, and MediaPipe. 4. Cloud Computing & Big Data Lab — AWS Educate, Google Cloud, Hadoop, Hive, and Apache Kafka. 5. NLP & Intelligent Systems Lab — NLTK, SpaCy, HuggingFace Transformers, and Rasa for conversational AI.

The AI&DS department has an active research culture with faculty and students publishing in reputed journals and conferences.
